After we eat the Seder meal and the Afikoman, we thank God for our food. Many of us are much more focused on what we want than on what we are thankful for, usually because some anxiety or imagined inner void. This too is a kind of slavery, compelling us to increasingly acquire and consume. When we appreciate what we have, we won’t overindulge perceived, fictional deficiencies. That’s why grateful people are more healthy, sleep better, have less anxiety, are less likely to suffer from depression, and are more likely to be happy and satisfied with life. Let gratitude make you free.
